On Halloween night--it was freezing outside! So, I decided to make this yummy Butternut Squash Soup with Cider Cream and Gruyère Croutons --a recipe from my friendly neighborhood cooking group. It was delicious and so cute and festive, don't you think? I thought for sure the kids would love it--but instead of licking the bowl clean, I simultaneously managed to make them gag and choke. Hmmm....not quite as I expected. And nothing hurts a cook's feelings more than someone (or two) almost losing their stomach after the first bite. Well, good thing their only 3 and 5. I, after working so hard, still made them eat all their dinner. HA! That will teach them! Anyway, I loved it--and so did Jeremy and Charlotte. I guess it's more for the sophisticated palate....
These mummy hot dogs were the real hit. And why wouldn't they be???
Charlotte had her first taste of real food that night--and she was in heaven! She thinks I'm a wonderful cook :) It's been a while now since this picture--she has since mastered pumpkin, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, applesauce, carrots, and noodles and she hasn't complained once! I'm also proud to say that I haven't bought a single jar of baby food! I think we eat more vegetables, when I know I have to cook some for her too.
Bridger and Chip
And Princess Kennedy--let me tell you, those white gloves were coated with chocolate by the time we got home. And can I just say that society as a whole as stepped up the quality of trick-or-treat candy since I was a kid. Most of the candy I got, was those gross peanut butter taffy things in the orange and black wrappers--do you remember? There was no bounty of chocolate to speak of. These kids don't know how good they have it!

Forgive the pictures--there was only a small window of no rain before we went trick-or-treating and I didn't want my camera to get wet.....
