The scare of my life!!!

My sweet little Kennedy gave me the scare of my life yesterday. Shortly after meeting Jer for lunch and while on my way home, I turned around at a red light to see that she was having a seizure (I'll spare all of the gory details). It was so awful! As you can see she is okay now--but I was so scared!

I guess what she had was a febrile seizure, caused my an extreme high fever--which after our ambulance ride to the hospital--after an I.V. and many measures taken to reduce her temp--it was still over 103. The sad thing is that I didn't even know that she was sick. I could tell that she didn't feel well, but I had no idea that something like this could happen.
It was such a nightmare--and I still don't feel like I have woken up yet. However, she really is fine now--and Bridger has a great story to tell anyone who will listen (what 3 year old wouldn't be fascinated by a car full of firemen and paramedics???)

Apparently this is pretty common (I guess one out of 25 kids)--but I have never heard of it before which didn't help my anxiety level!

Poor girl! Bridger was such a good boy in the hospital--he kept the nurses busy fetching him juice and graham crackers--and he loved playing with the doctor gloves--called himself doctor Bridger and asked if we had any coughs. :)

Can I just say how thankful I am for our health?? We are so blessed to be a healthy family. Even with this scary situation--there are many things to be thankful for. I am thankful to have had my cell phone so close (usually I have to dig through my Mary Poppins bag). I am thankful for being so close to Jeremy's work and a firestation and a hospital when this happened. I am thankful for such kind firefighter, paramedics, nurses and doctors. I am thankful for insurance. I am thankful for priesthood blessings--and for a husband who is able. And I am thankful that this was not more serious--that she is fine now and that I can continue to kiss her until she cries :)

Just another reminder of how fragile life is. Don't waste a single day.

How HORRIBLE!!! I've heard several stories like this and am amazed at the clarity of mind that you mothers have. I'm glad your little angel is safe and healthy. And I hope that nothing like this EVER happens again.

I am glad your were able to get help soon and that she is doing well. I hope you never experience this ever again.

That is so scary and there is nothing that you can do. I actually when I was her age got those all the time and the doctors said that I would grow out of them. It is true I didn't have them from when I was 2 on.

Hope everything is okay now and let me know if you need anything.

I have never heard of that! How scary. I don't even usually take my kids temps when they are sick. I think I might do that more often now. I am so glad that she is okay!

Scary! We had the same thing happen with Connor while at Disneyland, and he has grown out of them now, none since he was 5. But I am so with you, it is terrifying to see your child like that. I hope she is feeling better and you are getting some sleep.

I am soooo sorry that happened. I am glad that everything is okay and Kennedy is feeling better. She looks so cute in the pictures, minus the big thing on her arm. Poor girl! Good thing you have Jeremy and doctor Bridger around to help.
